Gunshots heard at Jamaican Independence Day party in Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, Weds 7th Aug 2024

Around 12,15am this morning (Weds 7th Aug) gunshots were discharged in the direction of a Jamaican Independence Day party taking place on Coldharbour Lane, Brixton. 

The sound of the gunshots could be heard over the booming soundsystem at the open air party outside the Barrier Block, with people seen running away from the scene.

Armed police were soon on the scene while a police helicopter hovered overhead.

Paramedics attended to a person in Loughborough Park Road who had fled the scene with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Another person had reportedly broken his leg as he tried to get away from the shooter.

We spoke to eye witnesses and police officers on the scene but it was still too early to get a full picture of what happened.

Update: The police have reported that the man who was shot was 44 years old and was  taken to hospital, where his condition was assessed as “non-life-threatening but potentially life-changing.”

They added:

“There have been no arrests at this early stage.

 

A crime scene is in place and enquiries are ongoing with detectives from Specialist Crime (Trident) investigating.

 

“Witnesses or those with video that could help police should call 101 or post @MetCC on X ref CAD 125/7 Aug.”
