In response to the recent events in America and the continuing death toll of citizens at the hands of the police, the London Black Revs have organised an event in Brixton’s Windrush Square on Saturday, 9th July, 4pm.
The event invites people to “Stand in Solidarity with our brothers and sisters murdered by the Hands of Police Brutality.”
Here’s the full text from the Facebook event page. At the time of posting, 338 people had said that they would attend:
YET another brother died in hands of police while being stopped and asked for documentation at a routine traffic stop, while Philando Castile tried to reach into his pocket to provide it, he was shot 4 times in the arm while his GIRLFRIEND was livestreaming and their daughter witnessed the attrocity.
For Philando’s girlfriend, the only 911 was social media, as the video of his murder was put out and shared across social media. It is ever-mine poignant that there is a crisis in America. Thousands upon Thousands have been killed by police with a disproportionate amount being Black. A crisis that is gripping communities across the board as they take to the streets to demand justice.
We don’t expect justice to be given. It must be fought for.
We will be gathering in protest of the heinous shooting of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile by the hands of the New Orleans Police Officers and Minnesota police officers which adds to the ever growing list of young black victims MURDERED while conducting day to day activities that we all would do without even thinking of being murder on the process by the very same people WE pay to PROTECT and SERVE US.
Although while we may think that because we are not in America this issues doesn’t affect us the truth is the only difference is that we happen to not be in America.
We will be marching not only for Alton Sterling but for;
