With temperatures once again soaring into the 30Cs today, residents hoping to get in some sunbathing outside Brixton’s Southwyck House (aka the Barrier Block) have found their green space unceremoniously hogged by a large and rather daunting police truck.
Driven right on to the open space – where no vehicles are normally allowed, ever – the CCTV-laden police vehicle arrived without any consultation with residents or neighbours, and has now been occupying the public space for at least two days.
We spoke to local residents, and none were particularly pleased at the unexplained appearance of this large vehicle on the open space in the area.
One noted that the CCTV cameras on top of the vehicle only seemed interested in protecting the vehicle, although maybe that’s just their ‘resting’ position.
Others suggested that shunting such a large police vehicle in front of the estate could be seen as an intimidatory move, particularly as no one we spoke to was consulted about this unprecedented incursion into the small park.
