At around 1.30am this morning (Fri 31st July), we heard the familiar thump of a car crunching into an immovable object at speed, followed by the sound of shouting as the driver apparently hot footed it away from the crash.
Police on the scene told us that the vehicle was being chased by a police car before it smashed into the middle of the junction of Coldharbour Lane and Gresham Road.
As you can see, the car sustained fairly major damage as a result of hitting the pedestrian crossing post.
Close up of the damage.
More police cars were in attendance by 1.45am.
As of 2.30am Friday morning, several police officers and vehicles were still on the the scene, with the northbound lane of Gresham Road blocked off.
