Copwatch, a police monitoring and anti-police violence group working in the legacy of Tottenham Rights, The Monitoring Group, GLC groups etc, will be hosting a workshop in Railton Road this Sunday, 28th May.
They told Brixton Buzz:
It’s the closing weekend of the SoulsINQUEST exhibition – “an embodiment of family resistance that refuses to be silenced, misrepresented or forgotten.
A collaboration between bereaved families, Sarah Booker, INQUEST, and curated by Languid Hands, it is a powerful act of defiance in response to decades of injustice.”
I’m sure INQUEST would appreciate the listing about the exhibition itself, part of their ongoing 40th Anniversary archival project.
But also on the Sunday there are two events, one of which we are running
– 13:30-16:30 Sunday 28th Copwatch friends are organising alongside United Friends and Families Campaign, a coalition of families bereaved through deaths in police custody, prisons, immigration detention and detained mental health settings.
On the last day of the SoulsINQUEST exhibition commemorating those loved ones who have died in the hands of the state, we’ve been invited to reflect on policing, state violence, deaths in custody, healing and justice in a collective discussion with members of United Friends and Families and all attendees to the workshop.
Hot food will be provided.
Art materials will be provided for those who then decide to join us to imagine beyond school detentions, prisons, policing and borders using expression.
Free-writing/poetry, collage/zine making will be available, and maybe more – let us know if any of your members have an expressive interest they would like to share in the group.
Artwork may be added to the INQUEST archive if wanted.
There’s also tours of the gallery with the exhibition photographer Sarah Booker https://www.eventbrite.
