An Uzi submachine gun capable of firing 600 rounds a minute has been recovered by Lambeth police after it was found in a stolen car in Brixton.
The search revealed the Uzi 9mm submachine gun, a silencer and ammunition during the search of the car in Appach Road, Brixton (adjacent to Josephine Avenue).
The firearm and the car will now undergo further forensic examination by the police.
Talking to the Evening Standard, Detective Superintendent Steve Ellen from the Metropolitan Police said:
This is a significant recovery.
A loaded machine gun has been taken off the streets thanks to the ongoing work of our officers tackling gang violence in the capital.
Our investigation is in its early stages but we will be working to establish who left the firearm in the vehicle and whether it has been used in any criminality.
I would encourage anyone with information about violent crime to contact police or Crimestoppers.
