A Section 60 Order for the borough of Lambeth will be in place today from 3pm through to 5am on Wednesday 7 November. #StopandSearch

This section 60 appears to be part of a London-wide strategy in response to the recent surge in violent crime, as many other boroughs have also put the same powers in place (see tweets below).
What is Section 60?
Section 60 is a power that allows police officers to stop and search.
Where a Section 60 is in place, it means we can search anyone in a certain area, for example, when there is evidence that serious violence has taken place or may take place.
The officer should explain this to you and must be searching for items to be used in connection with violence.
A Section 60 #StopSearch authority has now been put into place in #HaringeyBorough #London This power authorises uniform police officers to #StopSearch people and motor vehicles without grounds to prevent serious violence etc. As a community we must fully support this action https://t.co/Jpx02jyKSZ
